Unbeaten hundreds by Tagenarine Chanderpaul (101*) and Kraigg Brathwaite (116*) underlined West Indies’s vigil on the second day, which saw only 38 overs bowled late in the afternoon due to rain and wet outfield. It was Chanderpaul’s first Test century while Brathwaite notched up his 12th.

Starting overnight on 112/0, West Indies had a comfortable opening half hour as Chanderpaul and Tagenarine staved off the challenge from Nyauchi and Ngarava with relative ease. West Indies were solid but Zimbabwe managed to stick to their lines and lengths and keep the runs tight

Brandon Mavuta came in to bowl spin in the seventh over of the day and picked the threads up from the pacers, bowling disciplined lines and allowing no freebies. In fact he conceded a boundary only in his sixth over of the day, straying down leg to Chanderpaul who tickled it fine and picked up his first boundary of the day.

Only 51 runs were scored in the 20 overs bowled before the drinks break but once the new ball was taken after the 83th over, runs were easier to come by for the two well set batters. Brathwaite hit a couple of crisp boundaries before Chanderpaul also found his timing against the new ball and pulled Nyauchi for a boundary. He got to his hundred in the same over later, also the penultimate over of the day as Zimbabwe were kept waiting for a breakthrough.

Brief Scores: West Indies 221/0 (Brathwaite 116(, Chanderpaul 101*) vs Zimbabwe
