The UP Warriorz have drafted Indian batter Shivali Shinde into the squad. The spot was vacated following an injury to all-rounder Laxmi Yadav during training. The Warriorz have played two games so far in the WPL, winning one and losing one. Shivali (26) has already joined the squad. Hailing from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, she has played for the state side, apart from turning out for the India-A side in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy.

“Playing in the WPL is a moment of immense pride for me. And my family is delighted that I have received this opportunity. I am looking forward to this stint and hope to pick up the tricks of the trade from some of the best cricketers in the business. Experiencing the electric atmosphere in the stadiums is something I am definitely looking forward to and I hope to be able to contribute in a substantial manner for the UP Warriorz,” Shivali said.

The Warriorz’s next game is against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Brabourne on March 10.

UP Warriorz Squad:Alyssa Healy (Captain), Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma, Tahlia McGrath, Shabnim Ismail, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Parshavi Chopra, Shweta Sehrawat, S Yashasri, Kiran Navgire, Grace Harris, Devika Vaidya, Lauren Bell, Simran Shaikh, Shivali Shinde.

No Mooney yet for Gujarat Giants

Beth Mooney continues to give anxious moments for Gujarat Giants. The Australian wicketkeeper batter, named skipper by the Giants, retired hurt in the first match. She did not play in the game against UP Warriorz and will also not feature in Wednesday’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mooney had suffered a leg injury during Giants’ first match against Mumbai Indians on March 4 and faced only three deliveries in that game which the Gujarat side lost badly. Since then Sneh Rana, the designated vice-captain, has been leading the team. The Australian had a practice session but she is still not fully fit. Giants had roped in the 29-year-old for INR 2 crore at the auction.
