Uncapped batter Kamran Ghulam has been named in Pakistan’s Test squad for their upcoming series against New Zealand following the retirement of Azhar Ali.

Also returning to the Test squad is Hasan Ali, while Mohammad Ali and Faheem Ashraf, who both featured in the Test squad that took on England, have been dropped.

The 27-year old Kamran had earlier been called up into the Test squad early in 2021, and was also in the reserves for the Tests against Australia earlier this year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board also stated that Haris Rauf was still injured. “Haris Rauf has not been included in the squad as he is recovering from an injury he sustained while fielding in the Rawalpindi Test. However, fast bowler Naseem Shah, who missed the Multan and Karachi Tests due to a shoulder niggle, has been being declared fit and as such, retained in the squad,” read a statement from PCB.

Pakistan are scheduled to play two Tests against New Zealand with the first starting on December 26 in Karachi, and the second on January 3 in Multan. This will be Pakistan’s next series at home following the whitewash against England that has left them at 7th spot, one above defending champions New Zealand, in the World Test Championship points table.

Test squad: Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shan Masood and Zahid Mehmood
